Dr Anthony Chellappah
Libby Grounds
Dr Anthony Chellappah is one of Australia’s most contemporarily trained Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. With degrees in Dentistry and Medicine and a Fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons, he is an expert in the surgical management of conditions affecting the teeth, mouth, jaws, face, and neck.
Dr Chellappah has completed over 16 years of study and training in some of the largest tertiary level hospitals in Australia and the United Kingdom. He is registered as a specialist Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with the Dental and Medical Boards of Australia, practising the full scope of his speciality.
He qualified in Dentistry from the University of Adelaide in 2009 prior to working in general dental practice in Tamworth. In order to pursue a career in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr Chellappah relocated to Queensland to study Medicine at James Cook University, obtaining his qualifications in 2013. Then completed his Medical Internship at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital before working as a Principal House Officer in Plastic Surgery and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Ipswich Hospital.
After that, four years of advanced surgical training in the speciality of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Princess Alexandra Hospital, Royal Darwin Hospital and the Gold Coast University Hospital. Dr Chellappah then worked at the prestigious King’s College Hospital in London to obtain further subspecialty experience in the surgical management of facial trauma and the correction of congenital and acquired craniofacial deformities as the Craniofacial Surgery Fellow, a position accredited by the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh). During this time, at the peak of the initial wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in London, Dr Chellappah was involved in the provision of a surgical tracheostomy service for the most unwell patients affected by COVID-19.
Dr Chellappah is a dedicated surgeon who is always committed to advancing and furthering his knowledge and skills.
Beyond work, Dr Chellappah is an avid follower of both rugby codes, enjoys indulging in his burgeoning sneaker collection (much to his wife’s displeasure) and is partial to sampling baked goods from around Sydney’s café.
Libby Grounds is an Oral Health Therapist graduating from the University of Queensland in 2009.
Upon graduation Libby worked in the public sector in the Mount Isa district for Queensland Health in the school dental service for three years providing dental services to rural and remote aboriginal communities. Upon returning to Brisbane Libby completed a Masters in Training and Development at Griffith University and achieved the Award of Excellence in her final year in 2015. After this, her primary role was for the Australian Dental Association (Queensland branch) that included providing support to Member dentists in their Practices conducting audits throughout Queensland, designing and facilitating continuing professional development events for dentists and their staff in Brisbane and North Queensland, assessing dental assisting students as well as working with Queensland dental universities. Libby was also a member of the Oral Health Committee and engaged in locum work in private general dental practice and specialist orthodontic practice.
Libby now currently works as a Periodontal Hygienist in a busy Brisbane Periodontal practice.
Prior to embarking in a life in dental, Libby completed an Advanced Diploma of Journalism and was a sports writer primarily for AFL. Her love of sport continues and she can be found following many codes and also enjoys watching cricket and tennis. She is the mum to two adult children and looking forward to starting some international travel plans.
