NIWOP sets the trend at the ISDH in Brisbane

From 15 to 17 August the 21st International Symposium on Dental Hygiene 2019 (ISDH) took place in Brisbane, Australia. The latest trends and scientific discoveries in dental hygiene were presented through the prism of this year’s theme: “LEAD – Leadership, Empowerment, Advances & Diversity”. With a particular focus on the NIWOP concept, W&H gave interested trade visitors insights into their evidence-based workflow for pre-treatment, implantation and aftercare.

The symposium on dental hygiene was organised by the International Federation of Dental Hygienists and the Dental Hygienists Association of Australia. From improving oral health in Australian care homes to the new classification of periodontal and peri-implant diseases, first unveiled at Europerio 2018, to the importance of oral health professionals in the treatment of cancer patient, the symposium covered a wide range of topics.

NIWOP for increased implant success

The W&H team at the ISDH placed special emphasis on the NIWOP concept – „No Implantology without Periodontology“. At the fair booth, interested trade visitors had the opportunity to learn about the workflow and the accompanying product portfolio. In-depth insights into the core theme were also provided by Dr Kristina Bertl, PhD MBA MSc, Assistant Professor in the Department for Periodontology at the University of Malmö in Sweden.

In an exclusive lecture, she brought the W&H workflow closer to the symposium participants from a scientific and practical point of view. The focus was on the treatment phase before the actual implantation, which may significantly improve the success rate of dental implants. Dr Kristina Bertl stressed the importance of a detailed assessment and appropriate selection of pre-treatment prior to implant insertion.

At the same time, it is particularly important to consider systemic and oral diseases in order to prevent peri-implantitis and ensure long-term implant success. Valuable tips on how dental hygienists and dentists can work as a perfect team to achieve the desired result rounded off the experts lecture.
